A few days after his first birthday, we had Bodie’s dinosaur party at our house. We kept it pretty low key and just had our family and closest in-town friends over. There were just over 20 of us in all and it was such a sweet day celebrating our little guy. Can we do it again?! I knew from very early on (like by the end of 2018) that we would probably have a dinosaur themed first birthday party. I do, of course, think it’s a really cute theme for little boys, but we had a bit more of a story behind it.
The first couple of months of his life, Bodie was just tiny. He was long, but skinny. He lost the typical weight that babies do in the hospital and then just took forever to put it back on. We were in the doctor’s office regularly for weight checks. I thought he was a good eater for the most part, but actually, for awhile, he was just kind of lazy and would only take in enough to mostly sustain where he was (not add on the pounds ounces). He liked to eat, but liked to sleep more. All that to say, he wore “newborn” clothes and diapers for a long time… much longer than we would have expected. The majority of clothes that we had purchased or had been given as gifts started at size 0-3 months and they swallowed him up. We had to buy newborn clothes after we got home from the hospital, but didn’t want to go overboard because we had no idea how long he would be in that size. I’m getting very long winded here, sooooooo… long story short, my mom bought a couple of packs of little dinosaur printed bodysuits for him (cute, not tacky, dinosaur prints might I add). Bodie wore those dinosaur bodysuits all.the.time. For like two months, y’all. I remember someone commenting one time, “does he ever not have on dinosaur jammies?” haha. Needless to say, as he grew, we just continued adding cute dinosaur things to his wardrobe. It just fits his little personality so well. To this day, whenever he has a dinosaur outfit on, I can’t help but to think back to tiny Bodie in his little bodysuits.
That was a long backstory, but it’s kind of what set the whole dinosaur party into motion (about 9 months before it even happened haha). Again, we had the best day and it was so special to celebrate our little nugget with all of our people. It actually was mostly adults at this party. Bodie doesn’t go to school/daycare, so he doesn’t have tons of “friends” right now other than a (at the time) 6 week old and 22 month old. We had some outdoor games set up outside, lots of food, and football on the tv. We did the smash cake, opened gifts, and just hung out. What else do you even do at a baby birthday party full of adults?!
A huge shoutout to my dad and Luke for working so hard on that balloon arch. It stayed up in our house for way longer than it should have just because they did so much work on it and then I couldn’t part with it. We don’t have pictures with everyone who was at the party, but it was such a special day and Luke, (Bodie), and I are still just so thankful for the support and love that has been shown to us by so many over the past year. Words can’t describe our gratitude enough!
*I’ll source all the decor and food at the bottom of the post.
Food:
Big Cake (Ivey Cake, Brentwood), Bodie’s Smash Cake (Puffy Muffin, Brentwood), Pizza (Papa John’s), Fruit and Nugget Trays (Chick-Fil-A), Dinosaur Gummies (Haribo)
Decor:
I got everything from Amazon or Target (no surprise there). Amazon has amazing prices on themed party supplies! We did our invitations from Simply To Impress.
What Bodie wore:
I ordered a seersucker bubble and then just had it monogrammed with his name on the front. I changed him when it was time to do the his smash cake because I knew icing would go everywhere. I got him a gingham diaper cover and then just had a white bib monogrammed with “one” in the same shade of blue. If you’re local to Nashville, I take all of my things to get monogrammed at Sew What Gifts and Stitches in Cool Springs. I couldn’t get over how cute the birthday hat was and how well it matched everything else.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy Halloween. xoxo.
