I’ve got big news to share with y’all today. I feel like this has been a long time coming, I just didn’t even realize it until about a month ago. I’m diving head first into something that I’ve become super passionate about over the past (almost) year and a half…
I’m now a Beautycounter consultant!
Before you pump the breaks after reading the word “consultant”, please hear me out just a little bit (I was previously very turned off by that term as well).
Many of you have heard me talk about or seen some Instagram posts featuring Beautycounter products and my love for the company. I posted simply because I enjoyed and reaped the benefits of using the products. I promoted the brand because I had been captured by their mission (more on that in a few.. hang tight). Never did I ever think I would become a consultant with the company.
Fast forward to about a month or so ago and a friend reached out to me after seeing one my Instagram posts. She encouraged me to really think about becoming a consultant because of my genuine love for the company. I hadn’t been buying my products through her, it was nothing more than a sincere push to think about jumping out of the box. I kind of brushed it off at first but then really began thinking about it. I mean I already use Beautycounter for all of my skincare and some makeup products… I tell lots of my friends and family about the company already because of how much I love it… I firmly believe in the “better beauty” initiative… etc. The more I started thinking about things like this, I concluded that becoming a consultant could be a really seamless transition into something bigger, all while not being that much different than what I was already doing. After a lot of thought and prayer, I decided to go for it.
I originally posted about switching to clean and safer beauty/skincare products in this post, but here’s a quick refresh. I first tried Beautycounter in December 2017. I’ve honestly kind of always been a makeup and skincare junkie and love to try new products. My mom used to always say, “you would know what you truly love and what works best for you, if you would stick with one thing long enough to find out.” All that to say, I had no problem giving Beautycounter a shot. I had heard some buzz and thought I would give it a test run myself. I found out I was pregnant in early January and became a little spastic even more cautious about what I was putting on and in my body (food, skincare, makeup, all of it). I checked everything with my doctor and researched ingredients and products like a maniac. I had just tried Beautycounter so it was all but solidified that I was going to continue that skincare routine. Not only was I already seeing and feeling results in my skin, but I was thrilled that all of the products I was using were pregnancy (and nursing) friendly. Jump to now, April 2019, and I’m still using the skincare products I originally tried and then some more that I’ve added to my arsenal. I’m also more on board with the Beautycounter mission than ever before:
“Our mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. We deliver on this bold mission in three key ways: Creating and distributing safer, high-performing products; educating the public about how to avoid harmful ingredients; and urging the government to pass laws to better regulate the beauty industry.”
I have been shocked by what I’ve learned over the past year when I started to dive into safer beauty. Y’all, the beauty industry is not near as regulated as you would think. In fact, there aren’t many restrictions on ingredients at all. Here are a few interesting facts:
- There are over 80,000 chemicals on the market and many of them have no health or safety data. This is especially true of those in the skincare and beauty industry.
- Your skin is the largest organ of your body. It absorbs everything you put on it.
- Terms like “natural”, “organic”, “pure”, and “plant derived” can be used without much research or screening and essentially just end up as marketing terms. Basically, companies can choose what ingredients they want to put into products and market them how they choose due to extremely limited regulations in the industry
- Beautycounter is certified as a B Corporation meaning that they meet rigorous social and environmental standards for performance, accountability, and transparency. This is no easy accomplishment.
- Beautycounter has a “never list” and bans the use of more than 1500 harmful or questionable ingredients when formulating products (nearly 1400 of those are already restricted by the European Union).
- Each ingredient that goes into a Beautycounter product is rigorously screened for information on hazards like cancer, hormone disruption, infertility, and developmental toxicity.
Beautycounter is aiming to get safer products into the hands of everyone. From women, to men, to kids, and even babies, Beautycounter has a safer beauty options for everyone. This is something I am so thrilled to be a part of and cannot wait to continue along on this journey! Before I wrap up this lengthy post, I want to answer a few general questions:
What do I really think of the products:
- I LOVE THEM. I have only tried one product that I sent back because I just wasn’t a fan of it. Other than that one product (which I will be honest about if you ever ask me), I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I have tried. Beautycounter has a “no questions asked” 60 day return policy (even if you’ve used the product), so if you try something and decide it’s not for you, you can get your money back. Like everything else, I’m not ever going to promote something on my blog that I don’t truly believe in or use myself.
Have I switched my entire skincare and makeup routine over:
- I have completely swapped my daily skincare routine over to all Beautycounter, but I do still try non-Beautycounter products here and there. I honestly just don’t feel like other products compare to these in terms of performance and quality, so my desire to try other skincare products has diminished a bit. To me, swapping my skincare routine was the most important.
- I have not swapped my whole makeup routine over. That’s an ongoing process. Easy example, I’m a mascara nut… I know what I like and don’t see me changing that routine any time soon and I’m okay with that because it’s about balance.
- It’s also just so stinkin’ hard to throw away products that are full or still have half of their life left. Swapping routines can be expensive as well, so it’s just not necessary to do it all at once (unless you want to and have unlimited funds haha). Like I mentioned earlier, I believe in BALANCE. Starting to incorporate safer beauty products is better than not using any at all. Never feel like you have to do all or nothing. That being said, the more products I try, the more I want to purchase because I’m so impressed with everything.
How to shop the products:
- There are a few ways to do this. Shop online, have a social/pop-up party, or have a consultant place an order for you. The easiest is to shop online like you do anything else. The beauty of Beautycounter (see what I did there?) is that you can shop with a consultant online without having to directly go through them in person/via phone if that makes sense. You also have the option to shop without a consultant if you choose. Obviously, I would love for you to shop with me as your consultant if you place an online order. You can do that here: www.beautycounter.com/karissalyers. During checkout, you can always confirm the consultant you are shopping with for your order.
If you made it to the end of this post, you’re the real MVP!! My plan is to continue to incorporate more Beautycounter posts on the blog. I’ll review products and let you know about specials, but promise not to be overkill. While Beautycounter won’t become the main focus of my blog, I think it will be a nice, little addition. I blog to remember events in my life as well as to show y’all things I love and want to share. Beautycounter fits nicely into the latter category.
If you’re interested in Beautycounter at all, now is a great time to try it. They’re currently running their Friends and Family sale and you can get 15% off each item. This rarely happens so it’s a great time to try something new or stock up if you already know you love a product.
I am adding a “Beautycounter” tab on my main menu bar, so click away whenever you want to shop. As always, feel free to email me or message me with any questions you have. I would love to help you find products that you love and that work for you… whether that is a tube of lipstick or an entire skincare regimen. xoxo.
