Happy May, friends! I can’t believe we are already in the fifth month of the year. Beautiful weather seems like it is here to stay, and pool days, warm vacations, and outdoor concerts are on the horizon. Because I work in the school system, I always seem to subconsciously tell myself “It’s go time” when May rolls around, and I can push through all the busyness knowing the end is in sight and fun things are coming. We have a lot on the calendar over the next several weeks, but it’s mostly fun stuff so there is a lot to look forward to. Today, I thought I would share 5 things that I’m excited for this month:
1. Gender Reveal for Baby
Of all the things I’m looking forward to in May, this is easily my number one. We have our mid-pregnancy anatomy scan coming up on Monday, and I. CAN’T. WAIT. to know more about this little one. Except… I must. Some of our friends have been sweet enough to throw us a little gender reveal party next weekend, so even though the scan is on Monday, we won’t find out until Saturday when all our family and a few others get together. After our doctor’s appointment, my friend Lauren is meeting us to take THE ENVELOPE and finalize the touches on the party. She and my college bestie, Mariglenn, are probably a little too excited that they will know baby’s gender before anyone else!
2. Porch/Patio Weather
Luke and I spent all last weekend in the front yard weeding, digging, planting, mulching, sneezing, coughing, etc. We also spent some time cleaning off and adding some new touches to our screened-in back porch. We have my Mimi’s old, white glider out there with an outdoor end table. This weekend, we added new cushions, a colorful runner, and some ferns and flowers. (Hanging string lights out there is at the top of my honey-do list for Luke this weekend.) It’s so peaceful and relaxing, but my allergies are preventing me from enjoying time out there – for now. I’m hopeful they will calm down over the next few weeks so I can sit out there and sip my morning coffee soon.
We tore out our back deck and are waiting for our concrete patio to be poured. The demand for construction work in Nashville is so high right now that all the good construction companies, including concrete companies, are backed up through at least June. We’re trying to be patient, but we’re ready to get this show on the road! I’ve already picked out furniture and a color scheme, though. I can’t wait to have that space completed so we can do some real outdoor entertaining (how “HGTV House Hunters” does that sound? haha).
3. Summer Break
One of the biggest perks of working in the school system is the goodness that is summer break. Being a preschool speech therapist, my busiest time of the school year is the last month or so. All of my kiddos require transition meetings with parents before summer break. April and May are full of super long meetings and crazy schedule adjustments. I’m currently over here counting down the days (3 weeks from today) until we lock up our rooms and say adios to another school year. I understand that as a working adult, 10 weeks of freedom in the summer is a true luxury… but it is definitely a luxury I look forward to every single year!
4. Babymoon in Scottsdale
Time away with Hubby at an incredible resort located somewhere warm, sunny, and full of palm trees is my idea of a good time. The threat of Zika while I’m pregnant knocked out Caribbean beaches, and Luke’s work schedule is too full to make Hawaii feasible, so we landed on Scottsdale, AZ. Although I most adore the tropics, I am pumped about this trip. I have seen so many amazing pictures and reviews about vacationing in Scottsdale. We are planning to go to the spa, play golf (obviously a must out there), drive to the Grand Canyon for a day, eat some amazing food, and laze around the pool cabanas.
I’ve already started thinking about what I will take on this trip. These things are high on my list or have already been ordered:
5. Wardrobe Brights
Out with the drab and in with the color! I mean, not completely out with the drab because I love wearing black and grey, but I definitely enjoy adding more color to my wardrobe during the warmer months, whether it’s with bright jewelry, lipstick, shoes, bags, or dresses. Here are some seasonal brights that I’m loving right now (thinking these are also great options for my desert trip. HELP!):
Almost Friday, y’all… We made it! xoxo.
