The pregnancy content is indeed coming to an end as I’ll be delivering Baby Boy by the weekend but, before it’s closed out, I wanted to share what’s in my hospital bag. Here is my hospital bag post from two years ago if you’re interested. This time around, there are definitely a few differences with all of the new Covid protocols, but there are definitely a lot of similarities. Luke’s in charge of packing his own stuff, but here’s the breakdown of what I have packed for me and baby boy in my hospital bag. Okay, let me be honest… *bags.
I feel like it’s important to note that the hospital really does provide you with the majority of what you “need” while you’re there, but bringing in some extra comforts from home doesn’t hurt a thing if it makes you more comfortable and will make you feel a bit more yourself.
For Mama:
- Henri Bendel Bag: This is the same bag I packed when I went in with Bodie a couple of years ago. My mom had gifted it to me several years ago and I love the size and structure of it, especially for this occasion. With Henri Bendel now out of business, it’s not available anymore, but this and this are both similar size and print.
- Robe: I packed this robe so I can throw on over my gowns. If I want a little more coverage/warmth but not full pajamas, this should be perfect.
- Pajamas: I’ve raved about these pajamas before and for good reason. They really are so great for pregnancy and regular wear. They’re not maternity, but have lots of stretch and work so well with a bump if you order up. I have several pairs now and I’m bringing one to the hospital because they’re just the ultimate comfort. I wore these last time and they feel similar and are a great option as well, they’re just a bit pricier.
- Nursing Gowns: I packed two different ones. This one from Gap and this one from Motherhood Maternity on Amazon.
- Nursing Bras: I ordered this pack from Amazon. I also have some of these for sleeping. My old ones were kind of worn, but I enjoyed the styles last time so I just ordered new ones. They worked for me last time around so I’m going to give them a go again.
- Slippers: I ordered this $16 pair to scuff around the hospital room. I hate even walking around the house barefoot so there’s no chance I’m going to walk around our room without something on my feet either.
- Shower Flip-Flops: Much like I just mentioned, I’m not getting in the shower without flip-flops on. I know a hospital is MUCH cleaner than camp (especially these days), but I’ll just feel more comfortable showering if I have some water flops on my feet. I’ve had these forever, used them last time, and they dry so quick… just the ticket for this occasion ha.
- Barefoot Dreams Blanket Dupe: Remember this blanket I talked about back in January/February? Well, I love it so much I’m taking it with me for added comfort from home. The quality and price cannot be beat!
- Dress for Going Home (blue and green): I packed this one (I got a small) and this one (I got a large). I’ll make a game-time decision. Both are under $40 and not maternity, but are super loose and flowy. This will help me feel a little more put together when going home while still being extremely comfortable! Bonus points that I can keep wearing them this summer. I’ll wear these shoes.
- Headbands: Silly to some, but these are the things that will make me feel more “me” so no one try and stop me haha. I think I packed four total (clearly, I need options)… this denim bling one, this rattan one, and this navy and cream pearl.
- Makeup Bag: Having this made me feel so much better last time around and I know that I’ll want to do at least a little make-up for some of our pictures in the couple of days we’re in the hospital. If I don’t use it, fine… but I want the option.
- Toiletries: I want my face wash, moisturizer, and deodorant… I just do. I’m not bringing the entire lineup, but I want the bare essentials. Toothbrush included, no worries.
- Masks: These are my favorites. They fit my face well, have good coverage, and the baby blue and floral are perfect for welcoming a baby in the spring.
For Baby Boy:
- Land’s End Tote: This is the tote bag I ordered to be our little one’s travel bag. I wasn’t going to take it to the hospital, but went ahead and packed it up with some of the overflow and extras (ie: my huge blanket). Bodie’s travel bags are Land’s End totes as well and they honestly hold up so well. I’ll monogram this one after he arrives.
- Newborn Nest: I got this set (sheet, swaddle blanket, and hat) to use in the hospital bassinet for cute pictures. I went back and forth between the dots and the gingham, but finally decided on the dots. The sheet will fit other basinets as well, so we will get continued use when we get home.
- Swaddle blankets: I wanted to bring a couple of ours from home to get baby’s scent on and give to Harper. We did this with Bodie and it seemed to help Harper adjust a little bit. I also brought one of the same blankets I had in the hospital with Bodie so I can recreate a picture… Y’all know I’m all about the pictures.
- Kissy Kissy Convertible Gown: Since baby boy’s due date is Master’s Sunday and we will most likely be in the hospital after our induction then, I couldn’t resist getting this golf print convertible gown. Kissy Kissy is one of our favorite baby brands as the cotton is just insanely soft.
- Paty Inc. Pieces: Some of this is for sure overkill to take with me, but I can’t resist having a few options. I love all things Paty for babies. My mom purchased us this gown, this hat, and this blanket and I have them all packed in case I want to use them in the hospital.
- Announcement Banner: This is so similar to the one I had with Bodie (both Mudpie) and, even though we can’t have visitors, I still want to have a banner on the door to record and document his birth stats and our time in the hospital.
- Pacifiers: I didn’t bring any with me last time and I’m not even sure when I will introduce them, but figured I would pack a set in case I wanted to use them. MAM is my favorite for little ones and these newborn ones are great for tiny mouths. I personally think the Phillips Soothies are just too big.
- Boppy Pillow: I didn’t bring this with me last time, but I’m at least going to have it in the car so we can bring it in if I want it while nursing. The hospital pillows can be so flat, so I feel like this might be a welcomed friend to both baby and mama! I also ordered extra covers… this and this and have one of them on for the hospital.
- Going Home Gown: This is the same gown Bodie came home in so I couldn’t help but to bring Baby Brother home in it as well.
- TRVL Design Gingham Carry On: I’m packing this so I can organize some of the things they give you for baby in the hospital (ie: nasal aspirator, hospital hats, etc.).
**You can see this post for more of what I have recently purchased for Baby Boy.
Extras That Luke Will Grab:
- Camera/Tripod: With protocols being so different these days, we don’t have a scheduled Fresh 48 session like we did with Bodie. We’re taking our camera and tripod to take some additional pics past what we snap on our iPhone. Luke’s actually in charge of these items, but y’all know how much I love photos so I included it in this roundup. Here is the camera and tripod we have.
- Nurse Gifts: They’re all packed up and in a basket by the carseat so he shouldn’t forget these. Here’s my Nurse Thank You Gifts post sharing what I did in case you missed it.
- Snacks: Cheez-Itz, Sugarfina Bubbly Bears, whatever else Luke has thrown in the bag haha.
- Letterboard: I’ll use this again to announce Baby Boy’s name and stats. We have our names narrowed down to two, but probably won’t decide until we see him so I wasn’t able to monogram ahead of time (breaks my southern heart).
- Portable Steamer: Wrinkles bother me and I may need to reduce some of those after many of these things have been packed for six weeks at this point.
I’m sure I’m forgetting a thing or two that’s stuffed in the bags, but this is the overall majority. Especially with the visitor restrictions in place, I would much rather have too much with us (even if some stays in the car) than to get there and be without something. Also, Harper doesn’t get far away when bags are being packed… anyone else relate? She gets so nervous!
If you’ve packed a hospital bag before, was your list similar? Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comments or send me an email. Happy Wednesday! xoxo.
