Oh, March, you sure were a doozy. I don’t think anyone could have seen the things you brought with you coming. Here are my Five Things for March 2020.
1. BFF Visit in St. Louis
My best friend had a baby in January and the first weekend of March, I was finally able to make it over to the Lou to visit them and love on her sweet, baby boy. Even more thankful now that I went when I did or who knows when I would have been able to meet him for the first time. Not only did I have the best time getting in some sweet newborn cuddles, we were able to have some quality friend time and do a little pampering (ie: pedicures, bakery runs, walks outside, and a quick mall shopping trip). I always love going to St. Louis to visit, but this time was extra sweet with the recent addition of her little nugget. I can’t wait for him and Bodie to be buddies.
2. Trip to Dothan
Another trip I am so thankful I took when I did. Bodie and I took a trip down to Dothan to visit my parents and to celebrate my mom’s 60th birthday (two days after I got back from St. Louis actually). We were there for 6 days and left on March 17… literally right when everything started hitting the fan if you know what I”m sayin’. Despite the fact that things were starting to get a little crazy, we still had a lovely visit. The weather was sunny and in the upper 70s the entire time I was there… a welcomed change from what Nashville had been offering. We did a paint class at church and made the cutest door signs to hang for the spring and summer. That Sunday, March 15, was actually the last day that everyone met at church in person before things really started shutting down. In hindsight, I’m even more thankful and happy I was down there and able to hear my dad/”Pops” preach. Given the fact that I’m still not sure when we will be making another trip down to visit or my parents come up here (they were actually originally scheduled to come this weekend… cue all the tears), that trip couldn’t have been more timely.
3. A Slow Down
We had a pretty busy late fall and winter season. Between traveling often, the holidays, Luke’s mom undergoing lymphoma treatment, and his sister & brother-in-law moving to Texas, it kind of felt like were physically or mentally going non-stop for awhile. March into April has forced us to take a step back and slow down. Despite the hardships of quarantine, there have been some positives and blessings as well. You come to realize what’s really important and how much “extra” you fill your days with that is written off as “necessary.” Slowing down and being together more at home, going for walks outside every chance we get, cooking more meals, etc. has been really nice and a welcomed physical and mental break. Not to say I want to live like this forever of course, but the season of slowing down is teaching me valuable lessons and that is something I will count as a blessing. I truly believe the Lord is working in many hearts in the midst of the world’s chaos and the unknown. Feeling anxious or find yourself worrying? It happens to me too. I wrote a post last week on Bible Verses for Comfort and Encouragement that have helped me, so maybe they would uplift you as well.
4. Birthday?
So my birthday was in March and honestly, it was somewhat of a dud. It was a gloomy, gross day and again, that’s about the time that everything really hit the fan. Not to present a sob story, the day was just not great in general and not very fun (keep in mind this was just before the birthday car parades that are now going on haha). What was fun is that, on that same day, Bodie officially hit the 18-month mark. You can read more about all of that here. Luke had technically made some birthday plans for me, but none of them worked out and that’s okay. I celebrated with my parents when I was down in Dothan. They ordered me some amazing custom artwork that I had been wanting for our bedroom (still hasn’t come in yet though) and a Nordstrom gift-card which is always appreciated (linking two of the things I’ve purchased with it so far below). Given the world’s circumstances, if all I’ve really dealt with is a junker of a birthday, I will consider myself extremely blessed and move right along… but is it wrong that I want to reschedule my birthday for later this summer and have a re-do haha?
5. Bathroom Update
Like a lot of you I’m sure, we have been taking on some home projects and doing some low-key updates over here. Luke is extremely handy and can build/redo just about anything, he just doesn’t always have the time with his typical work schedule. Although he’s still be working a lot (and we are so thankful that he is busy and employed), he’s obviously doing all of his work from home which makes it easier to tackle projects. We most recently started updating the upstairs guest/Bodie’s bathroom. I’m planning on doing a “Bodie’s Nursery & Bathroom” post where I will share more details, but let’s just say paint goes a long way, people!
Thanks for stoping by. xoxo.
