Five Things Vol. 16

September 4, 2019 in Home

Hello and happy September! August was a crazy month for us with lots of traveling (mostly for Luke). Honestly, I’m glad August is over but, even amidst chaos, there are always still blessings and fun that can be found. Here are my favorite five things from August.

1. Lake Weekend and Bodie’s First Boat Ride

At the very beginning of the month, we headed up to Kentucky Lake (where Luke’s parents have a place) for the weekend. Even though it’s only about 2 hours away, this was only our second trip up for the summer. Although we had been up on Memorial Day weekend, we didn’t take Bodie out on the boat. During this trip, we decided it was time to make his first boat ride happen. With his swim trunks, bucket hat, sunglasses, and life jacket on, he was ready to ride. And let me just say… babies in life jackets, y’all. Adorable. Safe to say, Bodie loved it and we did too. Lake time with family is always fun. Luckily, we made it back up this past weekend too and added one more summer lake weekend to the books.

2. Play Date at Radnor

Radnor State Park is such a lovely place to go for a walk around the lake while pushing babies in their strollers (or hike the trails when you’re kid free). If the weather is nice, you’ll be lucky to even find somewhere to park. One Friday, Bodie and I went and met one of my sweet, college friends and her little boy for a play date. We started at Radnor for a long walk and ended it at Chick-Fil-A. This may come to a shock to everyone, but it was actually Bodie’s first time inside of Chick-Fil-A. For as many times as he has been through the drive thru, he had never actually been inside (lazy mom alert). He had his first taste of waffle fry (not the whole piece that’s in the picture btw… just a teeny bite) and seemed to enjoy it (along with the wafer he had that is pictured on the side of his face). It was such a fun morning spent with a good friend just chatting motherhood and watching our littles see the world around them.

3. First Auburn Game of the Season

This may have happened on the last day of the month, but it was still in August. Anyone else feel like the start of college football is the real start of fall and the best time of the year (even if it is still brutally hot outside)? Most of you are probably aware that Luke and I graduated from Auburn and our love for the city, school, and sport’s teams runs deep. This weekend was so much fun kicking off another season with our Bodie Bear (a little more aware than he was in his newborn state last year). I’ve got to get him some Auburn outfits for this year though. He only has the one bodysuit pictured below that fits him right now (side note: it says 3-6 months… so the sizing has to be off, right? haha) and that is just not going to cut it all season. Here’s to hoping the Tigers don’t break our hearts over the next couple of months. War Eagle!

4. Paint Projects Around the House

Changing a couple of small things has made such a big difference. Number one: Our fireplace was lined with ugly green tile. I mean it wasn’t the worst ever, but was certainly dated and not my style at all. My cheap solution was to paint it white to match the rest of the mantle. Luke did just that for me last week. It looks so much better! Now, after 2.5 years of saying I wanted to paint it, I’m not sure why we didn’t get this accomplished sooner haha. We’ve still got to tidy things up around the edges, but it’s almost complete. Number two: Painting the closet doors in Bodie’s nursery. We replaced his doors last fall and then never painted them. They were fine the natural, tan color that they were, but the plan was always to paint them white and screw in the gold knobs. As I was coming back from getting a pedicure a couple of weeks ago courtesy of my sweet mama treating me from afar, I opened the garage to find Luke painting away. He then reinstalled them one night at like 10:30 when Bodie was asleep and never even woke him up. Bodie is a hard sleeper, but that was very impressive to me. Major brownie points for Luke for doing these two projects for me without me even having to ask.

5. Quick Trip to Dothan

With Luke being on a different trip every week in August, I felt the need to break up his absence a little bit. Bodie and I headed down to my parent’s house in Dothan to spend a few days. As always, getting to spend that time with them was wonderful and I got to relax some knowing my mom was handling all of the dishes, food, and laundry while we were there. She spoils me and I love her for it. Also, seeing your parents as grandparents is honestly just the best thing. While we were down there, we got to spend some time with my bestie back home and her little boy who is right at a year older than Bodie. They played with trains and blocks and then on the swings and it was the cutest thing. Safe to say, Bodie loves a swing. Six hours away from family and friends feels too far, but I’m thankful it’s still only a one-day car trip away. We’re making it work the best we can 🙂

What did you enjoy most about August? It really has been so fun for me to remember things, both big and small, that I enjoyed and have been thankful for each month. Looking back on the memories is something I know I will always treasure. xoxo.
