I’ve been having a “mule moment” for some time now… And, while I’ve always loved pastel and muted tones, lavender and similar light shades of purple are really doing it for me right now. This lavender duster and these white mules were part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and I knew I wanted to snatch them both up from the moment I saw them. I didn’t really envision wearing the two together, but I tried it out, and it totally worked. I wore them with a little black dress that has been one of my best friends during this pregnancy (it’s non-maternity but super stretchy). You can see more of this dress here and here. The mules have a black outline (and the cutest, teeny-tiny studs), which helped tie the stark black and white contrast together. I kept my jewelry and shades simple and swapped into my favorite black bag and viola— easy outfit and out the door.
I rarely feel compelled to follow “old-fashioned” fashion rules… Example A: the one that says, “no white (shoes, pants, bags) after labor day.” (Side note: This is one of the few women’s fashion “rules” Luke knows, thanks to the movie White Chicks. Haha) I personally think it’s outdated and silly. White can look just as great in fall and winter as it does in spring and summer. These white mules really have endless seasonal wear (except for super cold days when you don’t want your heel exposed). They pair perfectly with dresses, all shades of denim, and leggings/ponté pants. The white can soften a look and tie in more muted/pastel tones, as well as unexpectedly brighten up an otherwise dark outfit (i.e., that black jeans, black sweater outfit I just can’t get enough of in the fall).
Although white leather shoes are a newer trend I love, pastel pieces are something I’ve been a fan of for as long as I can remember, and I like to incorporate these hues year-round (probably because I just love all things light and airy). This duster definitely runs a little on the big side, but the side splits add a more tailored look to the oversized drape.
*I have no problem addressing the elephant in the room here… I definitely should have had some self-tanner on haha. That salmon wall combined with the lighting did not do my legs any favors. Yikes. But, that is a daily task that has become rather difficult with my belly these days and therefore has gone down on my priority scale. Maybe next time?
Hope you’ve had a fabulous start to your week! xoxo.
